What's Pitstop?
Pitstop is a online Bulletin/Text/Ansi file Displayer. After
having problems with other Art Gallery and trying to organize numerous
top scores from many doors, I decided to create my own program useing
the doorsource modules. Here are some of the Feautres:
* Display Text archives from inside .ARJ compressed files.
* Reads straight off from Files.bbs.
* Works as an ANSI Art Gallery for ANSI'S or Top Scores Bulletins.
* Configurable Areas.
* Writes to Log which bulletin was read or an error occured.
Setting up:
Uncompress the files and follow the DoorSource instructions on
Setting up doors. (DS.DOC). Which is also in the file.
FILES:
BULLWELL.ANS(.ASC) The Main Display presented when the callers
first enters PITSTOP
BULL.ANS(.ASC) Main Menu in ANSI or ASCII Format.
PITSTOP.CFG Main Configuration File(Explained Below)
PITSTOP.EXE Main Executable
PITSTOP.DOC What your reading right now!
DS.DOC Setting up the File to your BBS Type Doc!
DS.CFG DoorSource Example Configuration File.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Pitstop reads from Files.bbs type format or *.LST files. First
you set up the main configuration file, below is and example which each
line explained. The File MUST be named PITSTOP.CFG and be in the same
directory as PITSTOP.EXE,
* PLEASE ADD BACKSLASH AT THE END OF LINES WHEN DESCRIBING DIRECTORIES.
c:\b\text\
c:\bbs\system.log
tVirus Digest (Imported from InterNet)@c:\bbs\virus-l\files.bbs@c:\bbs\virus-l\
tGeneral Bulletins Area #1@c:\bbs\bulletin\files.bbs@c:\bbs\bulletin\
bAnsi Art Gallery: Faces@c:\bbs\gallery\faces.lst
bAnsi Art Gallery: Cartoons@c:\bbs\gallery\cartoons.lst
bAnsi Art Gallery: General ANSI Graphics Vol #3@c:\bbs\gallery\other2.lst
bAnsi Art Gallery: Top Players HI-SCORES!@c:\b\text\players.lst
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is a PURE ASCII file and at least the first three lines
must be entered or the program will abort.
First Line : Where BULLWELL.ANS(.ASC) and BULL.ANS(.ASC) are located.
Second Line: Where Pitstop will write the log or errors when a file
isn't located.
Third line on.... THE Area configuration.
ANSI FILES:
bAnsi Art Gallery: Top Players HI-SCORES!@c:\b\text\players.lst
/\
||
=== The first character tells PITSTOP if it must uncompress the file
before reading the file or it's and Ansi file. If the first character is
a (t) (MUST BE IN LOWER CASE!) its a Text (.TXT) file and it must be
uncompressed (Only .ARJ is supported in this version.). If the first
character is (b) it's a (.ANS) or (.ASC) file and doesn't need to be
uncompressed, this is good for a ansi art gallery or displaying doors
created bulletins.!
bAnsi Art Gallery: Top Players HI-SCORES!@c:\b\text\players.lst
|______________________________________|
From the second Character until the First (@) sign is the name
of the area as it will apear in the main menu.
bAnsi Art Gallery: Top Players HI-SCORES!@c:\b\text\players.lst
|____________________|
The last description is where PITSTOP can find the file list
containing the file descriptions and the location of the file. (This way
you can have many .ANS or .ASCII all over the disk and still have them
together in the menu.(WOW!). You can use any name, in this case I used
(players.lst), you pick the name... Heres and example of my PLAYERS.LST:
Top Fishers@c:\b\text\FISH
Top Combat Players@c:\b\text\COMBAT
Phantasia top Players@c:\b\text\PHANT
Top Players for Trivia@c:\b\text\TRIV
|_____________________|
The first characters until the (@)sign are the description which
will appear on PITSTOP after selecting an AREA.
The remaining file description is the FULL PATH and name of the
file. you don't have to include an extension (.ANS or .ASC) Pitstop will
automaticly present the file according to the ANSI setting of the user.
Got it?, Let go see how it's done if it's a Text file...!!!
TEXT FILES:
tGeneral Bulletins Area #1@c:\bbs\bulletin\files.bbs@c:\bbs\bulletin\
As before the first character tells PITSTOP that it's a TEXT
file configuration line. The next Characters until the next (@) sign
contain the file with the TEXT descriptions, in this case I'm using the
FILES.BBS from Superbbs(or QuickBBS). You must append the the file
description a (T) to tell pitstop that it's a text file, an example is
provided below. FILES.BBS:
SOUND BLASTER DIGEST (Published Montly)
╔════════════╦═══════╦════════╦══════════════════════════════════════════╗
║ NAME ║ SIZE ║ DATE ║ DESCRIPTION ║
╚════════════╩═══════╩════════╩══════════════════════════════════════════╝
SBD0011.ARJ (T)Sound Blaster Digest #11 (Oct. 1991)
SCAN86B.ARJ McFee Scan V86 Scan program.
SBD0013.ARJ (T)Sound Blaster Digest #13 (Dec. 1991)
SBD0014.ARJ (T)Sound Blaster Digest #14 (Jan. 1992)
|_|
|
|
You Must ADD THIS for Pitstop to recognize the line! (This way you can
call files.bbs. and have files still available for downloading
When this menu is presented only lines with a (T) are
shown and in this case SCAN86B.ARJ is not shown as an option. (WOW!)
* If your not running SuperBBS or any other BBS that's supports this
type of format (FILES.BBS) you may create a separate file as long as the
file is in similar format.
NAME OF FILE (WITH EXTENCION), few Spaces.., Description with
(T) prefixed. As the example above.
tGeneral Bulletins Area #1@c:\bbs\bulletin\files.bbs@c:\bbs\bulletin\
|_______________|
The last description is the Path of where the files can be
found. This way you can have many Description files in a directory and
the files in others. (Most of the time these two are the same...) I
added it just in case you don't wish certain files to be able to be
downloaded... DON'T FORGET THE BACKSLASH!
IMPORTANT!
The file to be read inside the COMPRESSED file must be the same
name but with .TXT extension for example: Here' whats inside SBD0014.ARJ
ARJ 2.30NG Copyright (c) 1990-92 Robert K Jung. Jan 19 1992
NOT REGISTERED for business, commercial, or government use.

Pitstop will uncompress only SBD0014.TXT and display it to the USER,
after the file is displayed it's deleted.
FILES: (BULLWELL.ANS AND BULL.ANS)
Bullwell.ANS (.ASC) should contain information about your BBS and what's
pitstop all about.
BULL.ANS(.ASC) MUST contain the main menu and three options.
(C)hange area (this will list the areas you defined in the
PITSTOP.CFG area. Pitstop will display in Blue areas which
are Ansi files, in this case areas which are configured as
(b) in the PITSTOP.CFG.
(R)ead Bulletins from the Current list. Pitstop will default to
the first defined area.
(M)ain Menu, This will exit PITSTOP and return to the BBS.
(*)Will also return to the BBS.
Well that's it!
